here’s our story...
for years i made peppermint bark and gave it to friends and family around the holidays. they loved the bark so much they started asking me to sell them some to give as gifts. this snowballed into a small business called barking dog candy. i started out selling online, to local stores and lots of friends and family. thankfully i have many of both. several years later the bittersweet candy store was opened. bittersweet sold barking dog candy, old fashioned candy and unusual retail items. it was a funky fun store that was loved by all. for many reasons, bittersweet closed earlier this year after three years in business.
bittersweet and barking dog candy were always two separate businesses. after the closing of the bittersweet store i decided they needed to be combined. so now the delicious chocolate you knew as barking dog candy has been re-named bittersweet. just as in the past we donate a percentage of our profits to the dutchess county spca. ten percent of our profits are donated every year. it will never be enough to repay them for giving me my sweet dog oliver.
now that i have no retail location i'm taking it back to the basics. the new website is looking amazing thanks to mark & phil, my favorite marketing company. facebook and twitter help me let people know what events i'll be vending at and give you a sneak peak at new products. i sell at many local stores and venues, and i run around the hudson valley delivering to whoever i can.
there is a reason this company has been around for so long: the chocolate is delicious.
it all starts with great ingredients. the chocolate company that i use has been around since the 1800’s and is certified fairtrade. everything i make is small batch one pound at a time. almost all of our packaging and even this catalog are made from recycled, 100% biodegradable materials. these are the reasons that bittersweet candy is good for you and the world.
